17 Things that Christianity Should Be More Tolerant About

The world is changing, and there are a few things that certain areas of Christianity are getting somewhat left behind on. That’s why we’re going to shine the light on 17 things that Christianity should be more tolerant about.

Other Religious Beliefs

The Bible teaches Christians that they need to be tolerant of other religious beliefs, just as long as they do not accept them as the truth. However, some Christians are very quick to condemn other religious beliefs, which is disrespectful and goes against teachings.

Sexual Orientation

Studies by the Pew Research Center show that most Christians are slowly becoming more accepting of homosexuality, but there’s still a long way to go. Christianity needs to do a better job of embracing and affirming the LGBTQ+ community to make them feel accepted by the religion.

Gender Equality

The role of women in the church is certainly increasing in certain areas of Christianity, but it’s still quite far behind in others. Christianity should get to a point where all women have as much of a chance of getting into roles in church leadership as men do.

Divorce and Remarriage

Quite a lot of Christians have a hard time showing compassion and understanding towards those who divorce and remarry. But as time goes by, more and more people are going through this process for various reasons, so the religion will be outdated if it continues in this way.

Science and Evolution

Traditionally, Christians have rejected science and evolution, but studies have shown that they are indeed true and can be accepted alongside Christian teachings after all. Forbes reports that many Christians still reject it, however, and these people need to move forward.

Political Opinions

People around the world seem to be drifting further apart from one another when it comes to political views, so it’s more important than ever for Christianity to embrace differences in opinion. Polarization is never going to be a good thing for Christianity as a whole!

Mental Health

Some Christians are out of date with their ability to recognize mental health issues and promote psychological well-being. However, the fact of the matter is that many people are going through something, so Christians need to come together and accept this rather than alienate people.

Other Denominations

There have always been conflicts between denominations of Christianity. But this is not good for Christianity as a whole. In order for Christianity to thrive, people will need to respect the doctrinal differences among all of the Christian denominations. There’s no need to argue!

Climate Change

PRRI conducted a study to find out whether Christians believed that climate change was caused by humans or whether it was natural, and sadly, many believed that it was naturally caused only. They reported that 49% of evangelical Protestants felt this way, which is not good enough!

Education

Education should be available for everyone, as Christianity teaches us about the power of knowledge. There are some out there who believe that education should be limited to certain people, but making it available for everyone would allow for religious and secular studies to be shared.

Health Care

Accessible health care should be a fundamental Christian value. There should be more health initiatives, both in the church community and across the world as a whole. This is one of the key ways to fulfill the mission of Christian care and compassion that’s fundamental to the religion.

Immigration

Jesus taught us to be hospitable to all, so the anti-immigration and refugee rhetoric in a lot of the Christian community is fundamentally wrong. Christians should be challenging unjust policies on the matter and advocating for compassionate immigration reforms so that people can be helped, no matter where they’re from.

Wealth Distribution

A journal from Springer Link details how Christianity has been ‘deeply implicated’ in American inequality. This is something that, of course, needs to change, as religion should be fair. Christians should not be letting people suffer at the hands of the super-rich.

Substance Abuse

Some Christian people look at substance abuse as a sign that people have given into temptation and therefore cannot be saved by God, but this is an old-fashioned way to see the situation. Instead, they should treat substance abuse with compassion and understanding to help support people.

Prison Reform

Another area in which Christianity should be more tolerant is of criminals in general. A key way to do this would be to advocate for a reform of the prison system, as the way it is now does not reflect compassion and forgiveness for individuals in any way.

Artificial Intelligence

In the modern world, there are many new things that we need to consider the moral and ethical implications of, and perhaps the key one is AI. Christianity needs to not be left in the past, so to avoid that, it should consider the impact of AI technology on religious practices and community life.

Role of Technology in Worship

On the subject of technology, it’s important to consider its impact on worship in general. Many denominations of Christianity are employing technology to help them with worship, i.e., online prayer sessions, whereas others are getting somewhat left behind in that area. The internet can help bring us together!
